Area Agency on AgingOn October 19, 1976, SCADC was designated an Area Agency on Aging (AAA) by Governor George C. Wallace to plan, develop and administer programs for seniors 60 years of age and older. Our planning and service area includes Bullock, Butler, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Macon and Pike Counties with a 60+ population of 20,949 persons. The AAA serves as an advocate for seniors and operates under federal authority established by the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended and the Alabama Department & Senior Services. A network of local governments, service providers, advisory council members, and individuals coordinate and pool resources to help seniors live independent lives with dignity for as long as possible. Eighteen (18) senior centers and seventeen (17) minivans and buses are strategically located throughout the region to enhance the well-being of seniors. Services administered by the AAA, though limited in some counties, include: -Aging and Disability Resource Center Services eligibility depends on the service to be provided. Generally, persons must be 60 years of age and older to receive assistance. However, persons under 60 years of age, who meet certain medical and financial requirements, are eligible for services. Clients are given an opportunity to voluntarily contribute to the cost of most services. All collected contributions are used to expend the services for which they were collected and supplement federal funds.
